Balenciaga embraces bunion-friendly shoes
Luxury fashion house Balenciaga is chucking convention and designing footwear that even ladies with bunions can wear.
Last fall, Balenciaga released a pair of color-block high heel loafers. They were classic, comfortable-looking footwear that translated to the funkier style of pop star Rihanna, according to StyleBistro.com.
The following season, the house's head designer Nicholas Ghesquiere took bunion-friendly fashion to the next level and created a line of footwear that was made up of flat, menswear-inspired shoes.
The Daily Mail reported that he did so at the request of models like Gisele Bundchen, Amber Valetta and Carolyn Murphy.
"The idea was to have this crazy casting with Gisele and Amber Valletta and Carolyn, and they said no for high heels. They were not used to walking with heels anymore," said Ghesquiere, quoted by the news source.
Alas, the French designer will be back to his old tricks come this fall and winter, as his upcoming collection appears to be rife with towering heels, the Daily Mail reported.
