Bunion Aid™ now with antibacterial coating
The new material of the straps of the Hallux valgus orthosis offers the user nu-merous benefits and provides for a fresh textile surface - it can also be worn in case of predisposed feet.
Munich, 7 August 2007 The novel Hallux valgus orthosis Bunion Aid™, which can be worn during the day while walking and under load thanks to an innovative joint design at bunion level, will immediately be supplied with a new material. Both straps that are used to fasten the dynamic splint system Bunion Aid™ to the foot are now made of a particularly heavy-duty, high-performance fabric with an antibacterial and antiseptic coating. It pro-vides for a hygienically sound and “fresh” fabric surface even during longer periods of wear and can also be used in case of various dermatological conditions.
The active principle is based on a type of self-purification: Growth of fungi and bacteria on the bandage and skin is prevented. This effect offers the user numerous benefits.
Prevents nuisance odors and protects sensitive feet
The new antibacterial coating of the Bunion Aid™ straps forms an effective barrier against bacteria which decompose sweat. This prevents nuisance foot odors. Furthermore, the new material prevents growth of potentially harmful microbes on skin and bandage and the new, soft and aseptic fabric minimizes the risk of pressure marks on the skin. Thus Bunion Aid™ is very kind to the skin and also suitable for sensitive feet. Contrary to the Hallux valgus night splints common in the market, this orthosis can be worn in almost any situation during the day – even while walking in comfortable wide-fitting shoes – and therefore this improved coating offers a real benefit particularly for the user of Bunion Aid™ who wears it not only at night but additionally for several hours during the day.
Bunion Aid™ also for predisposed feet
A further benefit of the new coating of Bunion Aid™ is that due to the soft, aseptic surface pre-disposed areas of skin are not detrimentally affected during wear of the Bunion Aid™ bandage. Thus the indication is expanded by those patients who were previously barred from the list of indications due to various dermatological conditions. Patients with existing fungi infec-tions and various foot dermatoses no longer need to do without the benefits of a Hal-lufix® splint in order to correct their Hallux valgus and can wear Bunion Aid™ after consulting their physician.

Bunion Aid™ is a newly developed and internationally patented orthosis for the effective treatment and correction of big toe malpositioning in the case of Hallux valgus. The dynamic splint is fastened to the foot by means of a toe and metatarsal bandage, it supports the transversal arch and additionally supports the metatarsus by means of a pad. The metatarsus is optimally stabilized, the painful bunion relieved, the toe malpositioning is corrected and the foot is brought back to its natural shape and maintained that way. By means of an incorporated joint at bunion level the base joint of the big toe can move naturally. Thus the splint can be worn in almost any situation during the day. Contrary to rigid Hallux valgus night splints common in the market, Bunion Aid™ can not only be worn while lying at night but also while walking in comfortable wide-fitting shoes during the day. Now for the first time the deformed foot can also be corrected under load. Normally it is sufficient to wear the splint at night and for an additional 2 – 3 hours during the day.
